Christian took a deep breath. Since his chest still pressed against hers, the slight shake within shook D.J. too. Then he rolled away from her and stood. D.J. started to shiver at the loss of his warmth. She yanked the thin hotel blanket over her nakedness and lifted her head to stare at him. "What's wrong?"
He barely paused in the act of yanking on his pants. A short bark of laughter came from the shadows surrounding him. "D.J., you sure know how to ruin the moment, don't you?"
Icy mortification flooded her veins. She had given more of herself to this man in the last hour than she'd ever given anyone in her life. Then he had turned away while her body screamed for his and had the nerve to say she had ruined the moment.
When unsure of her emotions D.J. fell back on anger, and when she was angry she struck out with the best weapon in her arsenalher sarcastic mouth. "I'm just trying to be a responsible adult here, McCall. In typical male fashion you think with the part of your anatomy that might have a name but doesn't have a brain. In the nineties, consenting adult sex begins with a condom."
"Well, between us there isn't consent, and therefore no need for a condom."
"Five minutes ago we had plenty of consent."
"Five minutes ago you hadn't opened your mouth and reminded me of all the reasons we shouldn't be in bed together."
"What reasons?"
"Just two, D.J." He turned and walked to the door
